2009 Recipient
Grace R. — Grace
is a four-year old girl who has been stricken by a devastating
disease called Rett Syndrome (RTT). Once full of sparkle
and boundless ability and energy, Grace is now struggling
to cope with a failing body and mind. Picking up Cheerios
has become a daunting and fading task for her. Grace
began life as a perfectly normal and healthy baby girl.
At 18 months old, the family knew that something had
started to go terribly wrong and all hopes of a normal
and healthy life were stripped away from her when the
diagnosis was confirmed in November of 2006. Grace has
two brothers, Sam (10) and Ben (8) and two sisters Meg
(6) and Lily (2), who desperately want to play and run
with their sister but they have had to learn to accept
that those days are over for Grace.

2008 Recipient Cory S. — Cory
was a healthy 19-year-old high school graduate who continued
to play the sport he loves, hockey, after graduation.
In February, 2008, Cory suddenly became very ill with
a rare lung disease called Non-Specific Interstitial
Pneumonitis (NSIP.) Since Cory had just lost his health
insurance, all funds received by the family were gratefully
appreciated. |

2007 Recipient Matthew B. — In August
of 2006, Matt was about to enter his junior year at West
Warwick High School. Matt played guitar in the jazz band
there. Just prior to the start of school, Matt was diagnosed
with an aggressive, fast-moving form of leukemia (AML.)
In November, 2006, Matt received a bone marrow transplant
from his sister. Matt’s
mother, a high school teacher, was unable to work during
this time. Although Matt missed his entire junior year,
he was able to graduate with his class and is now a freshman
at the University of Rhode Island. |

2005 & 2006 Recipient Madeline M. — We
first learned of Madeline when the National Guard Family
Assistance Center contacted us to make an oil delivery
to the family of a deployed guardsman. While little Madeline,
aged five at the time, was battling leukemia (ALL), her
father, a Westerly police officer, was serving oversees
as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot. Her mother, a teacher,
had taken a leave of absence to care for Madeline and
her two younger sisters. Because the deployment and the
medical situation had an adverse affect on the family’s
finances, the OHI decided to give the funds to the same
family for two years. |

| Oil Heat Institute Charitable Foundation |
| Thank
you to these generous contributors of heating oil
to our 2009-2010 heating programs |
 |
 |
 |
The Oil Heat Institute Charitable Foundation runs two
emergency fuel programs. The Foundation receives donations
of #2 heating oil from wholesale suppliers, and heating
oil companies volunteer to deliver the product (in 100
gallon deliveries.) The cost of the actual delivery is
paid for by the RI Oilheat Institute Charitable Foundation,
Inc., although, in some cases, the oil dealer will absorb
the cost of delivery.
OPERATION OILHEAT
Operation Oilheat was started several years ago to help
families of deployed military personnel who are suffering
an economic hardship. The program is run through the
RI National Guard Family Assistance Center. Military
families in need of heating oil can contact the Family
Assistance Center directly for help.
NOTE: All delivery requests
must come through the National Guard Family Assistance
Center, from the RI Office of Energy Resources, or from
the participating oil dealers. No direct personal requests
to the foundation are accepted
EMERGENCY FUEL PROGRAM
The Emergency Fuel Program is run each year there is a
need and when there are sufficient donations to the program.
The program has helped up to fifty families in need each
year and is run in conjunction with the RI State Energy
Office.
If you wish to donate to one of these programs, you may
send a check to:
RI Oilheat Institute Charitable Foundation, Inc.
1177 Jefferson Boulevard
Warwick, RI 02886
If you wish your donation to go to a specific program,
please note "Operation Oilheat" or "Emergency
Fuel Program" in the memo section of your check.
Every penny you donate will go
to a family in need. None of your donated funds will
go to overhead expenses.
